DTM champions Audi confirm 2012 line-up

Friday, February 24 2012

DTM champions Audi have confirmed their driver line-up for the 2012 season, which visits Brands Hatch on 18-20 May, the series' only UK round. The announcement follows current title-holder Martin Tomczyk's defection to the new BMW squad.

Heading up the Ingolstadt manufacturer's attack will be former champions Mattias Ekstrom and Timo Scheider, both drivers remaining with Abt Sportsline, which won the team's championship last year. Joining them in the third car will be Swiss Rahel Frey, for her second season of competition in the DTM.

Former Le Mans winner Mike Rockenfeller will return to Ernst Moser's Phoenix team alongside Spaniard Miguel Molina, whilst Team Rosberg's line-up remains unchanged, with Portugal's Filipe Albuquerque and fellow sophomore Edoardo Mortara of Italy. All seven of the drivers were involved with the development of the new Audi A5 DTM car, built to the championship's new regulations.

Head of Audi Motorsport Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich expressed the marque's confidence in retaining their titles: "I'm convinced that with our three long-standing partner teams and the proven drivers we're extremely well set for the new DTM season which promises to become particularly thrilling due to the battle between the three German premium manufacturers, Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz, and will be a tough competition. Not least due to the tightened regulations even the minutest details will count. That's why continuity with the teams and drivers was important to us."

With BMW having announced their line-up, consisting of reigning DTM champion Tomczyk plus runner-up Bruno Spengler, Triple World Touring Car Champion Andy Priaulx, Augusto Farfus, Joey Hand and Dirk Werner, only Mercedes have yet to confirm the details of their attack on the 2012 title.

Tickets for the DTM at Brands Hatch on 18-20 May are available in advance from £29, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information, call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
