Motorsport heavyweights to hit Brands Hatch this weekend

Thursday, April 19 2012

The heavy hitters of the Delphi British Truck Racing Championship thunder into Brands Hatch this weekend (21-22 April) for one of the Kent venue's most popular family events.

Following a spectacular start to the season provided by the British Touring Car Championship and MCE British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch, the 1,000bhp racing trucks will be going all out to provide the same level of entertainment. Last year's double header of events were spectacular to say the least with superb racing and incidents aplenty on the short Indy circuit.

Remarkably, the trucks can out-drag a Porsche 911 to 100 mph and corner with astonishing agility, more often than not with the rear dragging behind in a spectacular power slide. The drivers aren't afraid of a bit of body contact, and the sight of these leviathans plunging into Paddock Hill Bend is something to behold!

Kent-based brothers Steven, Graham and John Powell from West Kingsdown all compete in the British Truck Racing Championship and will be hoping to give 2011 champion Dave Jenkins a run for his money. Such is the draw of the event that Dutch drivers Cees Zandbergen, Marco Donk and newcomer Frans Smit will all make the journey to Brands especially for the event.

A total of four scintillating truck races will take place on the Sunday, and with a superb support package including saloon cars, pickup trucks, Caterhams and the comparatively miniscule Legends, there really is something for all tastes.

With seven hours of action on raceday, Truck Racing at Brands Hatch is a superb value for money day out for all the family, with free admission for children aged 12 and under. There are also plenty of off track highlights with the Brands Hatch Fun Zone, featuring mini diggers, free face painting, a bouncy castle, Warzone laser games, a soft play bus, Formula Fun cars and bumper cars. The Brands Hatch Go Kart circuit will also be in operation while a fun family disco will take place in the Kentagon restaurant on Saturday evening.

Tickets are available on the gate from £13 with free admission for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click here.
