Brands Hatch team member set for Marathon charity effort

Friday, April 20 2012

Brands Hatch employee Jason Kluger is aiming to complete his second marathon in 7 days this weekend, as he takes part in the famous 26 mile event in London.

Jason, who organises trackday events at Brands Hatch and four other circuits in the MotorSport Vision (MSV) group, is completing the arduous challenge to raise money for three-year-old Aaron Lindridge, from Northfleet, who was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma just before Christmas last year. The rare condition is a soft tissue cancer that affects fewer than 60 children in the UK every year.

A keen runner, Jason will be taking part in his 10th London Marathon, but intends to retire from competing in the prestigious event this year. He finished the Brighton event last Sunday in an impressive 3 hours 45 minutes.

Aaron is currently being treated at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust children's cancer care unit. Aaron is undergoing an intense programme of chemotherapy but will also need to have proton radiotherapy which is only offered in specialist cancer care units in the US. Whilst the NHS will fund some of the cost, it does not include everyday expenses and with the treatment lasting twelve weeks, the close family of four hope to travel together.

"It's a very good opportunity to raise some money for a very worthy local cause," said Jason. "Aaron was a happy 3 year old little boy with a bubbly character until two weeks before Christmas 2011 when he became poorly with a suspected infection. Whilst I will be undertaking the toughest challenge of my running career, it's nothing compared to what Aaron is undergoing at such a young age."

Aaron's family have set up a Facebook page to raise awareness of Aaron's condition and the events that are being arranged to help him at http://www.facebook.com/groups/Aaronsamericanadventure/
