Cees Zandbergen secures opening Trucks victory at Brands Hatch

Saturday, October 29 2011

Cees Zandbergen has won the first Delphi British Truck Racing Championship race of the weekend at Brands Hatch for Class B Competitiors. Andrew Lovenberry was second while Class A runner Matt Summerfield claimed third.

Andrew Lovenberry led off the start while Zandbergen moved into second on the first lap. Further back there was trouble for eighth-placed starter Trevor Martin, who got a tankslapper on coming across the start line before finally spinning at Paddock Hill bend, resuming at the rear of the field.

Lovenberry quickly came under heavy pressure from Zandbergen and the Dutchman forced his way past at Paddock Hill Bend on lap four. Zandbergen quickly pulled away to lead by 1.5 seconds at the end of lap five before claiming the win by four seconds after the eight lap duration.

The race included the top five qualifiers from Class A who were not eligible for points. The faster runners started half a lap behind those from Class B, but fought their way through the field to secure strong finishes. Matt Summerfield was the leading Class A runner, slicing through the field to secure third position while 2011 Class A Champion David Jenkins finished fourth overall and second in class.

Lene Heinz-Warner fought his way up to fifth while Class B runner Steve Horne made superb progress from 15th on the grid to surge up to sixth overall and third in class.
