Sevenoaks Rugby Club complete charity truck pull at Brands Hatch

Sunday, October 30 2011

A team of 30 players from Sevenoaks Rugby Club have successfully tackled a charity truck pull attempt during the Brands Hatch Halloween Truck Racing Spooktacular today (Sunday).

The under-16 squad pulled a full sized Heavy Goods Vehicle along the 200 metre length of Butterfield Way at the circuit in front of an enthusiastic crowd. The attempt has completed the club's fund raising initiative to raise an anticipated £20,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Upon completion of the pull, the roof of the HGV was opened to release hundreds of tagged balloons, and the person whose balloon travels the furthest wins a prize.

Tom Robertson of Sevenoaks Rugby Club said; "The reason for the truck pull was having firsthand experience in treatment for my daughter at Great Ormond Street this year. We as a family and club felt we wanted to give a little back and as they say 'keep the magic alive.' Its cost £50 million to keep Great Ormond Street going and they do an absolutely fantastic job.

"The Sevenoaks Under-16s are a great bunch of lads and all wanted to be part of the experience and show what some of the youth of today can give to a needy organisation."

The next event at Brands Hatch is the Lotus 1000km next Saturday (5 November). Tickets are available for £10 for adults with free admission for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click this link.
