Moto Rapido Ducati's Smart confirmed as 38th rider for BSB

Thursday, March 31 2011

Scott Smart has confirmed he will be fighting for the BSB Evo title this season after the Moto Rapido Ducati team announced their plans to move to the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship, as the grid now expands to an impressive 38 permanent riders.

Smart is a BSB race winner and after seasons in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship is ready for a return to the top class with the Moto Rapido Ducati team. This season the team have strong links to Ducati UK and the Italian factory's racing divisions allowing them to secure a factory built superbike chassis on which they have developed the Ducati 1198R Superbike EVO machine. In the team alongside Smart is Jamie Poole, riding for the team in the Rapid Solicitors Ducati 848 Challenge.

Smart said: I'm really excited to be returning to the Superbike grid on what will probably be the most competitive bike I have ridden! Riding a Ducati also seems to be a part of the family heritage so it's like being home! We have worked hard to develop the Moto Rapido team from a small Superstock team to a superbike team in only a couple of years and it's great to see the fruits of that effort. There will still be a lot of hard work to do and with the continued support of Steve at Moto Rapido, Orry at Solent scientific, all the guys at Key 2 and of course Ducati UK, I am sure that it will be a great season.

Team Manager Steve Moore concluded: "Moving to up to the Superbike class was a big decision for Moto Rapido, having Scott as rider and additional support from Ducati and our long term sponsors Solent Scientific and Key 2 Group made the move to Superbike Evo possible. We are still searching for a title sponsor and I am confident that the coverage from BSB and the extra value we can offer sponsors in Evo will prove very attractive. The help we have had from Ducati's racing division over the winter means we will start on a very strong footing with a great motorcycle, I'm confident we have a great season ahead of us."
