Bumper grid in prospect for 2011 Club MSV Trackday Trophy

Friday, February 18 2011

The Club MSV Trackday Trophy held their 2011 pre-season trackday at Brands Hatch yesterday (17 February) as preparations for the second season of the series got underway.

A total of 26 teams were booked in for the event with several familiar faces returning for their second year in the series, while six competitors took their ARDS (Association of Racing Drivers Schools) tests to obtain their race licence, just one month prior to the first race at Snetterton.

Mallory Park winners Tom and Jamie McHugh were back on track in their Porsche 944, while other cars included a Jaguar XJS and Mazda MX5 alongside some VW Golfs, Renault Clios and even an MG Maestro, demonstrating that just about any car can take part in the series.

The number of female competitors will double this year, with Julie Sturrock joining the grid, sharing the Faze 1 Porsche 944 that Fifth Gear presenter Jonny Smith drove at Snetterton last year, with company owner Ben Demetriou. She will join Donna-Marie Maplesden who drove a Honda Civic VTec in last year's series and will be campaign the same car for 2011.

Bubble and Kick racing were also on hand throughout the day to offer support and advice to the all the competitors free of charge. The team have confirmed that they will attend all of the 2011 rounds ensuring all competitors make it to the grid bar the most severe of mechanical issues.

Club MSV Manager Alex Baker was delighted with the strong turn-out yesterday: "It was great to see some familiar faces from the 2010 Trackday Trophy and also meet some new drivers for first time. It seems we've got a great bunch of people involved in the series again this year including the Bubble and Kick team who's enthusiasm yesterday was felt by all involved. We're now really looking forward to the first round at Snetterton next month!"

The Trackday Trophy will consist of six races in 2011 - a 50% increase from 2010 following the overwhelming success of the series. Over sixty teams are now registered to take part and 25 teams have already confirmed that they will be racing at Snetterton on 19 March as part of the MSVR Snetterton 300 Season Starter event.

Tickets are available for £10 for adults with free admission for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0843 453 9000 or click the link below.
