Quartet of ex-F1 stars confirmed for DTM support race

Friday, August 27 2010

A quartet of legendary F1 alumni will compete at Brands Hatch next weekend (Saturday 4 September), when the new VW Scirocco Cup supports the DTM German Touring Car Championship at the Kent circuit.

Martin Brundle, Johnny Herbert, Derek Bell and Mark Blundell will make a one-off appearance during the series' UK debut, which features identical specification bio natural gas powered Scirocco R-Cup machinery.

Between them, the quartet have a wealth of motorsport experience, including 389 Grand Prix starts and an impressive seven victories in the Le Mans 24 Hours sportscar endurance race.

Brands Hatch marks Brundle's second appearance in the Scirocco Cup this season, as he scored a podium finish at Hockenheim earlier this year. "I was really surprised to find myself standing on the podium next to two very young racers at Hockenheim," he said. "The permanent entrants have gathered additional experience with the car in the meantime - this will make it more difficult for me at Brands Hatch."

Bell is also looking forward to hitting the tarmac next weekend: "I feel deeply honoured about the opportunity of contesting this forward-thinking one-make cup and competing with young top-calibre drivers," he said.

Herbert joins the Scirocco Cup grid at Brands Hatch after competing this year in the Italian Superstars Series, whilst Blundell arrives in Kent fresh from a GT3 podium finish in this year's Spa 24 Hours event, driving a United Autosports Audi R8.

The VW Scirocco Cup gets underway with free practice at 1.10pm on Friday (3 September), with qualifying and race taking place on Saturday.

Tickets for DTM featuring the VW Scirocco Cup are available from £25 for adults, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0870 950 9000 or click on the link below.
