Brands Hatch completes major resurfacing project

Monday, August 09 2010

MotorSport Vision has completed a major project to resurface the entire Brands Hatch Indy circuit, by stripping and replacing the track from halfway down the Brabham Straight through to Cooper Straight.

The resurfacing investment had originally been scheduled for completion at the start of the season, however extreme weather conditions meant that just over half the Indy circuit was resurfaced and an alternative opportunity had to be found in order to finish the project.

Following the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship event on the Grand Prix circuit last weekend (7/8 August), a team of 40 staff from Buckingham Group Contracting worked throughout the night to resurface the remaining areas of the Indy configuration - completing the improvements in less than 48 hours.

The smoother, high quality surface has been laid using 1,300 tonnes of the same Prixmat material used on the areas of the circuit that have already been replaced this year, from mid-way down Cooper Straight to the centre of the pit straight.

"Unfortunately, a snowy spell earlier this year meant we were unable to complete resurfacing work on the Indy circuit before the season started, but we have worked hard to find a window of opportunity to finish the project," said Brands Hatch circuit manager Mike Groves. "Now that the entire Indy circuit has been resurfaced, our competitors, trackday participants and driving experience guests will be able to enjoy an improved quality of track surface during their racing and driving activities."

The first major series to benefit from the new Indy circuit surface will be the DTM German Touring Car Championship, which makes its only UK visit to Brands Hatch on 3/4/5 September.

Tickets for DTM at Brands Hatch on 3/4/5 September are now on sale from £25 for adults, with free entry for children aged 12 and under. For more information call 0870 950 9000 or click on the link below.
