Truck Superprix gets underway at Brands Hatch

Saturday, April 17 2010

The five tonne powerhouses from the British Truck Racing Association Championship took to the track for the first time this morning (Saturday 17 April) under glorious sunshine for the start of the Truck Superprix at Brands Hatch.

The day began with two 15 minute warm up sessions, one for Class A machinery and one for Class B, and it was Chris Levett's Birds Motorsport MAN TGA that laid the gauntlet in the higher category's first outing. Nine-time national champion 'Hexham Haulier' Stuart Oliver was second quickest in his MAN TGS, with the MAN TRF of Matt Summerfield in third position.

Ricky Collett set the fourth fastest warm up lap but ended his session in the gravel after running wide at Paddock Hill Bend.

In the Class B warm up, local racer Graham Powell from Aylesford - who currently leads the category standings - set the pace in his Powells Transport-backed ERF, ahead of fellow ERF runner Carl Brookfield.

Graham's brother Steven was third quickest in his nimble Ford Cargo machine ahead of Brian Burt's Volvo White and racing newcomer Oly Janes in his Seddon Atkinson. Neither Ben Horne nor Craig Evans took part in the Class B warm up session.

There will be more action from the mighty machines of the British Truck Racing Association Championship when qualifying gets underway at midday, whilst there will be four races from the series tomorrow (Sunday) starting with the first Class B competition at 11.05am.

The Truck Superprix will also feature racing from Pickup Trucks, Legends Cars, the Westfield Sportscar Series and the Dunlop Motorsport News Saloon Car Championship.
