Graham Powell takes Truck Superprix victory at home circuit

Sunday, April 18 2010

Kent racer Graham Powell has won the first British Truck Racing Association Championship Class B outing today (Sunday) to claim his third victory of the season.

Powell - who hails from Aylesford - led from lights to flag after clinching pole position in yesterday's qualifying session. However he was hunted down in the latter stages of the eight lap sprint by the Sisu of Andy Lovenberry, who overtook Ben Horne's Volvo White at Clearways on lap three for second place after starting third on the grid.

Horne settled for the final podium position ahead of the pink and white machine of Brian Burt, who steered his Volvo to a slightly lonely fourth place.

After challenging Burt for fourth in the early stages, Graham Powell's brother Steven finished in fifth position in his nimble Ford Cargo, with Carl Brookfield behind in sixth place.

Brands Hatch rookie Oly Janes scored a solid seventh place finish, whilst Jim Bennett rounded out the top eight.

Craig Evans was the only Class B retirement after his Volvo went off at Druids on lap four.

The British Truck Racing Association Championship continues with the first Class A race at 11.40am, followed by the last chance and grand final outings at 2.35pm and 5.20pm.
