Airwaves BMW hoping for breeze to victory at home round

Thursday, April 29 2010

As the 2010 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship revs up for its first visit to Brands Hatch this weekend (1/2 May), championship leaders Airwaves BMW are confident that the BTCC's Grand Prix circuit outing will yield strong results for the squad.

Airwaves BMW, who have already scored a commanding 1-2 victory this season at Thruxton along with a further podium for driver Steven Kane at Rockingham, will be counting on plenty of home support for their championship charge, as the team workshop is based just down the road from Brands Hatch in Wrotham.

With an eight point lead over Silverline Chevrolet in the standings, Team Manager Oly Collins is hoping that the BMW will perform well this weekend to give Steven Kane and his team-mate Mat Jackson will produce another strong points haul.

"We're all really looking forward to Brands Hatch as its our local track," he said. "We've had good results there over the years so we'd like to continue that and back up our first two results that have left us at the top of the championship."

Kane, who currently lies third in the driver points table, is also hoping for podium glory on the team's home turf. "In my book the GP circuit at Brands Hatch is one of, if not the best circuit in the country. Traditionally we've always been strong there, but were not going to underestimate the competition. It would be great to get back on the podium in front of the home fans."

Motorbase Performance, the squad behind Airwaves BMW, will face a particularly busy weekend as the team is also running an unprecedented six cars in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB!
